This section has two tabs that together cover both directions of external calling:

  • Numbers — the inbound DIDs (the external numbers people dial to reach you), and where each one lands.
  • Dial plans — the rules that decide how outbound calls leave your tenant.

Numbers

A DID (direct inward dial) is an external phone number assigned to your tenant. The Numbers tab lists every DID you own and lets you point each one wherever it should ring. Each row shows:

  • Number — the external number itself.
  • Trunk — the carrier connection it arrives on.
  • Outbound CID — the caller ID this number presents when used outbound (if any).
  • Assigned account — what the number routes to when someone dials it.
  • Save — applies that row's changes. Each row saves independently.

Assigning a number

The Assigned account dropdown is the heart of this page: it decides what happens when the number is dialled. A DID can route to any routing target — an extension (a person), an auto attendant (IVR menu), a call queue (ACD), or a ring/hunt group. Pick the target, then Save that row. Leave it on — Unassigned — for a number you own but are not yet using. To send a number somewhere new, just change the dropdown and save — the change takes effect immediately.

Outbound caller ID

The Use as outbound caller ID toggle marks a number as the one presented when the assigned account makes outbound calls — so a person's outbound calls show a real, callable external number rather than an internal extension. (Which numbers an extension is allowed to present is set per person under General → Administrator only → Caller ID; see Directory.)

Everyday tasks

  • Point a number at a personNumbers, set Assigned account to the extension, Save.
  • Send a number to your main menuNumbers, assign it to the auto attendant.
  • Make someone's outbound calls show a real number → assign the DID to them and turn on Use as outbound caller ID, then confirm the number is in their allowed caller IDs (Directory).
  • Park a number for later → leave it Unassigned.

Next: Dial plans — how outbound calls leave your tenant.
